RHSC - Launch of the Innovation Fund

The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition announces the next round of Innovation Fund whose deadline for submitting proposals is 12 January 2015. This fund is the main initiative of the Coalition to inspire and fund new tools, research and other activities that help people access and can use affordable inputs and of good quality, including a wide range of contraceptive methods, to assure a better sexual and reproductive health.

In early October, Representatives of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the Carlos Slim Foundation (FCS), the Government of Spain and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) visited the Matiguás region in Nicaragua, to learn about the progress of the first operation of the Salud Mesoamérica 2015 Initiative in the country, carried out jointly with the Ministry of Health.

Universal Health Coverage in Latin America

The Lancet’s new Series on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Latin America charts the complex political, economic, and social forces that shape health policy making. An accompanying Health Policy paper examines the association between the financing structure of health systems and UHC. In the past few decades, important policies and strategic initiatives in health and development have been embraced by Latin America, with the active participation and support of the Pan American Health Organization, WHO, and other partners. Latin America is a laboratory to study the mechanics of implementing UHC.
Postnatal care by provider type and neonatal death in sub-Saharan Africa: a multilevel analysis

Globally postnatal care (PNC) of the newborn is being promoted as a strategy to reduce neonatal deaths, yet few studies have looked at associations between early PNC and neonatal outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa. In this study we look at the associations of PNC provided on day 1 and by day 7 of life by type of provider – skilled (doctor, midwife or nurse or unskilled (traditional birth attendant or community health worker) on neonatal death on days 2 to 7 and days 2 to 28.
