Our Brand

Nuestra marca

Our logo is based on the numerical system used in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. For the pre-Columbian peoples each numeral had magical connotations which carried implications for the fate of the human race.

The symbols correspond to the numbers 20 (20) and 15 (), which together represent the year 2015. This is the agreed target year for meeting the Millennium Development Goals and will be the year in which the Salud Mesoamerica 2015 initiative will be completed and its strategic mission met.

But the connotation of these numbers goes beyond their present day significance. For the pre-Columbian cultures of Mesoamerica the number 20 had a rich and magical significance. For us it represents the poorest 20% of the Mesoamerican people, who the initiative will help to improve their quality of life.

According to this interpretation then, the numbers read "twenty, fifteen" and not "two thousand fifteen," and differ visually in the text of the logo, 2015. The name emphasizes the theme of health - the area in which we work – and Mesoamerica - the region to which we work - and specify the timeframe of both the Initiative and the Millennium Development Goals - 2015.
